Manchester United alerted as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic certain to leave after clash with Maurizio Sarri at Lazio
According to Marco Conterio, the Chief Editor of TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are alerted by the situation of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as he is certain to leave Lazio after clashing with Maurizio Sarri. He has been a long-term target for the club, and they could finally get their man due to this development.
Milinkovic-Savic’s relationship with Sarri has reached an all-time low, and he is set to be dropped against Venezia on Wednesday. The former is expected to leave at the end of the season, but a January transfer can happen for the right offer. Regardless of the situation, he has been in excellent form for quite a while.
The 26-year-old has a contract with the Serie A club for two-and-a-half more years and has attracted interest from top European clubs. Real Madrid and Liverpool would provide hefty competition to Man United as they also have been long-term admirers of him.
Yes and No?
The possibility of signing the Serbian is exciting to think about, but questions can be raised whether that should be the priority. We need a midfielder- one who can be solid in defence and influential in possession. The imbalances in our midfield have been visible for a while now, and that should be given the utmost focus.
Fred and Scott McTominay have done well since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but more options are necessary for that position. The duo is impressive on their day but it would not be wrong to want an upgrade on at least one of them. Nemanja Matic is also a fringe player now and a shadow of his former self at Chelsea. We lack cover and competition in our defensive pivot, which should get addressed.
Once that is done, we could explore the possibility of signing players elsewhere. Paul Pogba’s uncertain future at Old Trafford is perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in football and we would need someone to who can take the mantle from him if he leaves.
It needs to be seen whether we could convince Le Aquile ace to join us as minutes would not be guaranteed. Even if we do need the services of the Lazio midfielder, there will be heavy competition as he has been a long-term target for them too.

Time will tell us where the Serbian international would end up next season as expectations are for him to leave in the coming transfer windows. Ralf Rangnick would have a say in a potential transfer, and it remains to be seen whether he would approve of it.
We signed a center-back, a striker, and a right-winger in the summer. It only seems logical to now strengthen in central midfield.
