Manchester United shortlist West Ham midfielder Declan Rice as a priority transfer target
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have identified West Ham United star Declan Rice as the priority target in the coming transfer windows. He is one of the highly-rated players in the Premier League and would instantly uplift the quality of our midfield.
Bringing in reinforcements in the defensive midfield position remains a priority for Man United and, Rice has been shortlisted as the number one target. The interest is regardless of whether Ralf Rangnick remains in the managerial role or not.
The 22-year-old has been a key player for West Ham and played a crucial role in their rise up the table in the past few months. That has seen them beat title heavyweights like Liverpool and are in contention to finish in the top four places to qualify for the Champions League next term.
Last month, it was stated that the Hammers had no intentions of letting the England international leave the club even if there were bids worth £100million made for him. The Irons have big ambitions and believe the midfielder will play a big tole in what is to come.
Essential signing?
Fred and Scott McTominay have fared well recently following the arrival of Rangnick, who has implemented a 4-2-2-2 system. It gets the best out of the midfield duo by masking their weaknesses by providing cover in a closed-off area. However, they are still limited on the technical side and the club will be better off going for an upgrade.
Those who watched Rice would know that he possesses all those abilities and has shown signs of becoming a complete midfielder. He was crucial for the England side that reached the Euro 2020 final, where he showcased his holding midfield abilities.
For David Moyes’ side, he plays in a slightly advanced role where he has more creative abilities, which help him to showcase the other skills in his arsenal. He would greatly suit us and could replace one of McFred to give us more control in midfield, which we are lacking right now.

However, it would be challenging to get his services in January, especially with how well Moyes’ team is doing in the league. With three years left on his contract, the Hammers hold all the aces when it comes to negotiations.
