Boost for Manchester United as Sevilla drop transfer price for Jules Kounde
According to ESPN (h/t Manchester Evening News), Sevilla has dropped the transfer price for Jules Kounde, which will come as a boost for Manchester United amidst interest from Chelsea. He is one of the highly-rated centre-backs in the world currently and continues to enhance his reputation in La Liga.
Earlier, the Spanish club were adamant that the release clause needed to be met for any interested party to receive the services of Kounde. However, they have now changed their stance and are demanding a transfer fee between £42.5million and £51million. That would be welcomed by Man United, who have been linked with him over the past few months.
Man United will face competition from Chelsea, who are also keen on getting the Frenchman’s signature in the coming transfer windows. The latter had previously failed to get him after failing to meet the release clause. But the latest update would spring them back into action, and the Manchester club needs to be wary of it.
A bargain?
The new valuation seems a bargain for a man of Kounde’s quality, and we should actively try to get him in the future. We did bring in Raphael Varane in the summer, but we could use more centre-backs looking at how the defence has fared this season. Phil Jones is deemed dispensable by the club and could leave in January, which opens up a spot for an arrival.
Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have been inconsistent, although the latter has fared well recently. Harry Maguire has had a nightmare season so far but is starting to find his feet recently, plus Varane has been struggling with fitness issues since his transfer.
It opens up a path for the arrival of the 23-year-old who could bring more solidity to our defence, which has been lacking recently. Some may be concerned by the La Liga star’s lack of height compared to others, but his displays on the pitch speak for themselves. Perhaps, one of the best examples in the last decade would be Javier Mascherano, who was rock solid despite his height.

As the transfer window draws closer, we could get more updates regarding the French international’s future. We would hope that should he move elsewhere, it would be to Old Trafford rather than moving to our rivals and strengthening them.
