PSG and Olympique Lyon join the race to sign Manchester United star Anthony Martial
According to French outlet RMC Sport (h/t Daily Mail), PSG and Olympique Lyon are interested in securing a move for Manchester United star Anthony Martial.
The 25-year-old striker is set to depart Old Trafford after his agent recently revealed that he does not want to stay at the club. Martial struggled for minutes at the start of the season and is not expecting that to change under Ralf Rangnick.
His performances have dipped in the past year, with Edinson Cavani also pipping him to the centre-forward role towards the end of last season. However, the star striker is not short of suitors, with Barcelona and Juventus keen on signing him.
But the European giants have now been joined by PSG and Lyon. The latter is looking to sign Martial on a loan move in January, which would see him reunite with his former team. The Parisians, on the other hand, are interested in signing him as a replacement to Kylian Mbappe, who is in the final months of his contract.
Time to offload Anthony Martial?
Since signing him in 2015, Martial has blown hot and cold at the Theatre of Dreams. He came with a lot of promise but could never realise his potential fully. He had a standout 2019/20 season, where he led the line brilliantly, scoring 23 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 appearances.
However, he has been a shadow of that player in the last year and a half. The competition within the ranks has increased since then, and the Red Devils seem to be getting along just fine without Martial.
Rangnick also made it clear recently that if a player does not wish to stay at the club, there is no need to convince him. Additionally, if we can churn out a transfer fee for him in the coming months, it could bode well for us.
We can then sign some of our transfer targets, if any, since a squad player would also be off the wage bill. Martial has done all he can in his 268 appearances for the club, but he can benefit with some time away from the club.

Mason Greenwood, Anthony Elanga, and Marcus Rashford are all promising players and would hope to lead our line in the coming years. As for Martial, he has had his chances and we can do better than him in the attacking department.
It would be wise to find a permanent solution for his future rather than loaning him out in January and then having to deal with the situation again in the summer. If a reasonable offer for a permanent move comes in the winter, the club should not think twice before accepting it.
