Manchester United infuriates Sweden manager over the treatment of Anthony Elanga
As per Sun (h/t Sportbible), Manchester United have infuriated Sweden manager Janne Andersson by preventing Anthony Elanga from joining the national camp.
Anthony Elanga rose to fame after his incredible performance for the Manchester United under-23 side. The 19-year-old forward registered an electrifying run in the last season by bagging 12 goals and four assists in 22 games. This incredible performance has attracted attention from the Red Devils’ senior department.
It seems the teenager has convinced the new manager Ralf Rangnick through his exceptional output. The German already gave him two chances with the senior team. Last month, the Swedish attacker played against Crystal Palace and received a first XI call-up against Young Boys.
The recent success of the young forward could be an excellent sign for himself and for the United squad. However, that hasn’t gone down well with his national side manager Janne Andersson.
It is believed that Ralf Rangnick’s team is planning to block the player from going for international duties.
Elanga was picked for a 24-man Sweden squad for the Portugal tour in January. However, United’s recent stance has put the Sweden manager in a tough situation, who has expressed his grief in an interview with the Sun.
Janne expressed his honest opinion on the Anthony Elanga snub in the interview.
“We would have liked to have had Anthony on the January tour.”
The Swedish manager even criticized Manchester United’s stance through sarcasm.
“At the same time, it is very funny that he has started to get playing time at Manchester United.”
Elanga has proved his maturity at a very young age. By investing in Elanga, the Red Devils could get a massive future return.

The move to block the Swedish player from joining the national camp could be a cautionary step from United. We have seen some recent injuries to key players on international duty. One of them is Victor Lindelof, who returned injured after the international break. Thus, this move from United is understandable.
On the other hand, as the Red Devils are entering a busty schedule, Rangnick would need every fresh leg available to tackle the hectic calendar. Elanga could see more game time in the coming weeks.
