Shola Shoretire and Hannibal Mejbri set for first-team promotion at Manchester United

According to The Athletic (h/t Mirror), Manchester United could be set to promote academy youngsters Hannibal Mejbri and Shola Shoretire to their first-team ranks in the coming weeks.

Shoretire joined United’s youth ranks from Newcastle United back in 2014 and has impressed with his rapid development over the years. The winger has established himself as one of the standout performers for the U-23s in the Premier League 2 Division 1, despite being just 17.

The England youth international recently put pen to paper on a professional contract at Old Trafford after a string of eye-catching performances for the youth side. Shoretire has managed 5 goals and 3 assists in 13 appearances in the PL 2 so far this season, including a hat-trick against Blackburn Rovers.

As per the report, Shoretire’s performances for the U-23s have convinced first-team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the youngster is ready to be gradually phased into the mix at the professional level.

Mejbri is also expected to follow in Shoretire’s footsteps into the senior ranks but his transition could be delayed due to an ankle injury.

Mejbri was snapped up as a top emerging prospect from AS Monaco in 2019 and has progressed leaps and bounds, honing his skills in United’s youth ranks.

The midfielder, who is held in high regard by the management, has managed 3 goals and 4 assists in 13 appearances at the PL 2 level while also featuring for the U-21s in the EFL Trophy.
