Manchester United might approach Brighton manager Graham Potter to take over from Ralf Rangnick in the summer
According to The Telegraph (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Brighton boss Graham Potter could be considered by Manchester United for the permanent manager’s post next summer.
The Red Devils finally appointed Ralf Rangnick at the start of this week. There was a lot of talk of hiring an interim manager and the Old Trafford outfit followed through on it. The German thinker has been hired until the end of the season following which he will take on a consultant’s role at the club.
He could have a say on the manager to be hired after him. Some options have already come to light, with Roberto Mancini one of the potential names on the list. The Italian led his nation to glory at the European Championship this year and has previous experience of coaching in England, thanks to successful days from being the Man City boss.
But if the move does not pan out as expected, two left-field options are touted to be Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim and Brighton manager, Graham Potter. Both are modern-day tacticians, but the latter does have considerable Premier League experience.
Smart appointment
Ralf Rangnick is considered the godfather of German coaching. He is thought to be a fan of gegenpressing and might employ the method at Old Trafford. Thus, all of this shall require players to perform at the peak of their energy levels.
But once he steps down and assumes the consultancy role, he might want the club to continue with that style of play. Graham Potter could be considered a smart appointment from this angle and given the kind of football Brighton play.
The Seagulls also operate with a lot of young players and the English manager is churning out the best from them. He is enabling them to punch above their weight, evidenced by their 7th position on the league table.
