Manchester United failed to land PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino for two reasons
According to the French news outlet Telefoot (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United failed to get Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino because of two reasons. They recently appointed Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager for the rest of the season.
Pochettino was linked with a return to England as the Red Devils coach before Rangnick was chosen to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, the PSG coach is still in the leading position to take the managerial role on a permanent basis at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Even though many felt that the Argentine would have had an easy job in Paris, things are far from rosy in the French capital. While he received a star-studded squad that included the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior and Kylian Mbappe, he has found it tough to field a well-balanced team that plays to it’s strengths.
The Manchester club could have secured the services of the 49-year-old if the French club had met two conditions. The first was if the latter had received a bid between €15-20million while the second one asked for the services of Zinedine Zidane to replace Poch if he left for United.
Journalist Julien Maynard revealed the information on Telefoot before the match between the Paris based club and Saint-Etienne took place. He added how they would have been open to letting their coach go if they met the two conditions. While the former Tottenham Hotspur manager would have been a good choice, the circumstances were not appropriate to bring him to Old Trafford.
A good decision from the management?
It is great to see that the Glazers have made a good decision regarding the coaching role at Man United. The reported figure for his services would have been a big hit in terms of money, and a rash decision was the last thing we needed. Since the new interim coach would take a consultancy role following his short stint, it would be interesting to see his preference ahead of next season.

The English club has been unable to balance between attack and defence. Arguably, it is a different variation of the problem that the ex-Spurs boss is facing with his current team. If he fails to find a solution this season, it is understandable that some may have concerns over him becoming our next manager.
