Transfer News: Manchester United make Ousmane Dembele a priority summer target
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sports mole), Manchester United have made the signing of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele ‘one of their main objectives’ ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Barcelona manager Xavi recently suggested that the Frenchman is ‘very happy at the Catalan club. But despite the manager’s assurance, the French superstar is yet to pen a new deal and is in the final few months of his existing one.
This means he could be eligible to talk with any foreign teams from January. Losing a player they spent £135.5m on for free would represent a hammer blow to Barcelona. Given their poor financial standing of late, it might be a hit they do not want to take.
The 24-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at Barcelona and has also suffered from persistent injuries. However, his age still makes him a hot target if his vast potential can be coaxed out.
It is believed that Man United have made the 24-year-old a priority target for the summer transfer window. However, the Red Devils are not alone as Newcastle United have also made an ‘astronomical’ offer to the French youngster in order to convince him to join them for free the following summer.
Dembele might have largely disappointed the Blaugrana fans, but whenever he has been fit entirely, his performance on the pitch has reminded them of his value. The French youngster’s ridiculous pace and dribbling abilities make him a valuable asset.
Manchester United could face some concerns in the centre forward role next season. With two of the game’s ageing superstars – Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo- the future isn’t secure for the Red Devils in the position. On the other hand, reports have emerged that Anthony Martial is looking to leave the club amid a lack of game time.
This could leave the Red Devils shorthanded up front next season. Bringing in a player of Dembele’s potential for free would not just offset the potential sales but also hand us a stellar transfer deal that is a bang for the buck.

Mason Greenwood has shown some spark in specific matches, but his lack of maturity has prevented him from making the best out of situations. In such a situation, Dembele can become a great addition to the forward line. If he successfully stays fit throughout the season, he could even become a future superstar given the ridiculous talent he possess.
