Transfer News: Manchester United are interested in Brighton & Hove Albion starlet Tariq Lamptey
According to Fichajes (h/t The Hard Tackle), Manchester United have joined the race to sign young right back Tariq Lamptey from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Since joining Brighton from Chelsea in 2020, the youngster has shown massive growth and improvement in his game. Even though his hamstring injury prevented him from being a regular starter of the squad, he has proven his worth in the limited opportunities. What makes him different is his aggressive intent and ability to attack from the right flank.
Being a short footballer, he has the advantage of attacking the free spaces at a fast pace. His low centre of gravity helps him get out of sticky situations with ease and it is something he uses to his benefit.
The young talent has attracted interest from Manchester United recently. However, the Red Devils would have to see off Arsenal to land the 21-year-old.
Brighton acquired the youngster from Chelsea for €3.3 million. However, the Seagulls know about the growing interest around the starlet and are looking to earn a hefty profit. It is believed that Graham Potter’s team can ask more than €50 million in the January transfer window for the former Chelsea academy player.
Man United are on the verge of losing one of their key player in the right-back position. Reports have emerged that Roma manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Diego Dalot. Even though Diego Dalot hasn’t been featuring many games at United lately, he acted as a cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. His potential departure will however disturb Man United’s strength in depth.
On the other hand, Wan-Bissaka has attracted criticism for his lack of attacking intent and few mishaps in defensive actions. In such a case, Lamptey would be able to create a competitive environment for the position, eventually benefitting all parties.
