Manchester United stars Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek to reconsider January transfer decision with Ralf Rangnick appointment
According to ESPN, Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek are putting aside their plans for the January transfer window for now following the change in management.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally paid the price for the poor run of results. The 4-1 loss to Watford proved to be the final straw as the Norwegian was sacked earlier this week. As things stand, German mastermind Ralf Rangnick looks set to take over as interim manager until the end of the season.
Caretaker manager, Michael Carrick started Donny van de Beek against Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League group stage game against Villarreal. It was a welcome change for the Dutchman who was largely ignored by Solskjaer. Another under-fire player who received a start on the night was Martial.
Carrick was clear that every person in the Man United squad will be handed a clean slate following Solskjaer’s departure. The fact that he chose to start both van de Beek and Martial showcases it to be more than mere talk.
Both players have looked out of sorts in recent months and had been linked with moves away from Old Trafford in the winter. Everton were said to be keen on the Dutchman while Martial was also tipped to seek pastures new.
Thankfully both players appear to be keen to reconsider their options ahead of Rangnick taking over. With over a month to go before the winter transfer window opens, the duo has enough time to gauge where they stand at the moment.
At 24 and 25 respectively, van de Beek and Martial are of the ideal ages to rebuild their careers at the top level. Experienced players who have much to offer, it could be a matter of them receiving the right guidance to take their game to the next level.
Both players have shown glimpses of genius at times and could prove to be key players under the next regime. The coming weeks will give us a clearer idea as to what the future holds. Having Martial and van de Beek available will not just give Rangnick more options but also add depth to the Man United squad. With the club looking to salvage the season, there is still much to play for.
