Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek could join Everton in the January transfer window
According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Everton could be close to signing Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek in the upcoming January transfer window.
The 24-year-old Dutch international has been struggling for consistent game time in a Red Devils jersey ever since he made the move to Old Trafford in 2020. The former Ajax Amsterdam player has found it hard to cement his place in this Man United team and has had opportunities too far and few in between.
van de Beek might be handed a lifeline as his contributions were one of the few positives that could be taken out from the 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road. The Dutchman was also given the green light to start the UEFA Champions League fixture against Villarreal CF but was substituted in the second half.
The Dutch midfielder hardly got a chance to showcase his abilities under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He would be hoping that a change in the managerial position would help him get more time on the pitch under his belt. Donny was part of the crop of elite footballers in the Ajax team that reached the semi-finals of the 2019 UEFA Champions League.
The 24-year-old still has his best days ahead of him and could provide a huge boost for Man United in the middle of the pitch. With the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba and the apparently imminent departure of Lingard, van de Beek could be a great long-term asset to the club.
It is time we saw more of the amazing technical abilities that were highlighted during his time with the Eredivisie club. It seems as though more game-time and a degree of trust and confidence from the manager could help the Dutch midfielder come back to his best form.
Given Bruno Fernandes’s influence on the Red Devils, it could be a tough task for van de Beek to be a regular starter in every game. However, the 24-year-old Dutch midfielder is more than capable of making an impact. While the Merseyside team had initially made an approach for the Man United midfielder last summer, the deal ultimately failed to transpire.
The Toffees could make a second approach for the enterprising midfielder in the coming transfer window. With the current chain of events at Old Trafford, Donny van de Beek would be interested in seeing if the new manager trusts him enough to give him more time on the pitch.
The former Ajax midfielder could prove to be a breath of fresh air if the stars align properly and the minutes on the field are increased. However, the Dutchman could be looking for a change of scenery unless some drastic changes take place.

The Old Trafford outfit would not want to lose a player of van de Beek’s calibre. He would certainly create healthy competition for Fernandes in the middle of the pitch and be a suitable option should the Portuguese star be unavailable due to injury or any other unforeseen circumstances.
