Transfer News: Manchester United rival Arsenal and Liverpool for the signature of Lille star Renato Sanches
According to transfer news on Transfer Market Web (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign Lille star Renato Sanches.
The Red Devils possess a variety of midfielders in their ranks but could be facing a shortage soon. Paul Pogba is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is likely to leave next summer.
Nemanja Matic shall turn 34 next year and will also be out of contract in 2023. Donny van de Beek has suffered for game-time and could head for the exit door in January itself.
This shall leave United with only Scott McTominay and Fred in the midfield line unless Bruno Fernandes plays a deeper role. Thus, the club could use some reinforcements, and it looks like they might have found one in Renato Sanches.
The midfielder was one of the key men to help Portugal win the 2016 European Championship. The 24-year-old has since been around in the last couple of years hoping to kick-start his career.
He flopped in the Premier League with Swansea before Bayern Munich permanently offloaded him to Lille in 2019. The Portuguese international excelled at the French club, firing them to the league title last season.

His box-to-box nature could serve United well, especially if they lose Pogba and Van de Beek in 2022. However, they shall have to fend off Arsenal and Liverpool to secure his signature.
Both clubs are looking to strengthen their midfield and would be interested in a player that is on the brink of hitting his professional peak. Thus, the Manchester-based club shall have to beat their rivals to the player’s signature if they hope to see him pull up their famous red jersey soon.
