Transfer News: Barcelona still keen on landing Manchester United star Edinson Cavani in January as Sergio Aguero replacement
According to the transfer news on The Mirror (h/t The Metro), Barcelona are ready to lure Edinson Cavani out of Manchester United in January as they look to replace Sergio Aguero.
The Blaugrana club are yet to kick-start their season. They lost Lionel Messi and Antonio Griezmann in the summer before firing Ronald Koeman in October. Xavi was appointed at the start of this month but the problems have not stopped for the La Liga outfit.
Sergio Aguero arrived this summer but the Argentinian could be on the verge of announcing retirement, according to journalist Gerard Moreno (h/t The Metro). The 33-year-old suffered chest pains in the game against Alaves last month and was brought off the pitch.
It has since been found through tests that he had an irregular heartbeat. Thus, with his career set to end, Xavi wants to sign a replacement in January.
Barcelona are eyeing a deal for Edinson Cavani and are willing to pay Man United £4million for his services in January. The Uruguayan international joined the Red Devils last summer and led them to the Europa League final.
However, game-time has been hard to come by this season after the additions of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. Moreover, his contract shall expire at the end of the season, and with Inter Milan also interested, they could churn out a reasonable transfer fee if the Spanish club and the Italian giants engage in a bidding war.

However, the 34-year-old has played well in a front two with Ronaldo recently. He has been out with injury in the last couple of weeks but has been effective when brought on the pitch.
If the Manchester-based club hopes to secure a Top 4 spot and go deep into Cup competitions, they will need squad depth, and Cavani is an important part of that. Regardless, the final decision might be made by Michael Carrick unless a new manager is appointed by January.
