Manchester United chief John Murtough admires Ralf Rangnick and could hire him as interim manager
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Express], Manchester United chief John Murtough has ‘huge admiration’ for Ralf Rangnick and could hire him as the interim manager for the season.
There has been a lot of chaos in the red half of Manchester over the past weekend. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was booed at Vicarage Road after United lost 4-1 to Watford. The Norwegian boss was sacked on the following day.
Michael Carrick was appointed as the caretaker and is likely to take charge of the Villarreal and Chelsea games. However, the former United midfielder has little to no experience of managing a top club and might not be entrusted with the role till the end of the season.
A proper interim manager is needed, and it looks like club chief John Murtough has found one. The director of football admires Ralf Rangnick, and there is a good chance the German could be hired as the temporary manager soon.
Rangnick is currently the sporting director at Lokomotiv Moscow but has previously done well at RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim in a managerial capacity. His eye for transfers could also help the Red Devils secure some interesting names in the January window.
However, there is no guarantee whether he would be open to coming to England. But he is not the only name on the list. Laurent Blanc could also be hired as the interim boss and might be open to coming as he has previously played for the club.

The Frenchman is currently working in the Middle East with Al-Rayyan and might want to make the step up. He did well at PSG between 2013-2016 and has the experience of handling big players and managing big clubs.
Thus, these are two incredibly astute options for United, and The Glazers must act fast before Carrick feels the pressure of the big job.
