According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated for the 2021 Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
It is that time of the year again and the personal accolades are set to be handed to the best players on the planet. The FIFA Best award was re-established in 2016, as it was amalgamated with the Ballon d’Or award until then.
Cristiano Ronaldo won the inaugural award in 2016 and in the following year as well, having led Real Madrid to the Champions League thrice in a row. Since, then it has also been won by Lionel Messi, Luka Modric, and Robert Lewandowski.
The 2021 nominees for the award have been revealed, and it is no surprise that the United ace is amongst them. The 5-time Ballon d’Or winner won the Golden Boot in Serie A last season, having scored 29 goals for Juventus.
The 36-year-old made a sensational return to Old Trafford this summer and has been brilliant for the Red Devils. He has already contributed to 11 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions.
His performances in the UCL have also been noteworthy as he has already secured 7 points for the club through his goals this season. However, failure to pick up major silverware in 2021 could put him at a disadvantage as compared to other nominees.
