Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag rejects Manchester United as he believes it is a managerial graveyard
According to De Telegraaf (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag is not interested in joining Manchester United as he believes it is a managerial graveyard.
The Red Devils delivered the sack to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently and appointed Michael Carrick as the interim manager. However, he might not be at the job for too long due to his inexperience in managing a major club.
United deserve a manager that has considerable tactical acumen and has an attractive playing style. The squad has been built for the club to return to their glory days and they just need a man at the helm to guide them to do so.
However, Erik Ten Hag will not be that man. The Dutchman joined Ajax in 2017 and has so far done an incredible job. He has led them to multiple league titles and the Champions League semi-final in 2019.
He has the capability to promote the youth into the first team and incorporate them with the experienced players. But he does not wish to take the hot-seat at Old Trafford even if they triple his wages, as he believes it is a ‘managerial graveyard.’
The Old Trafford outfit has hired and fired four managers since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. None of them have been able to lead the club back to the top of English football.
While Ten Hag would have been a sensational capture for a long term project, however, it remains to be seen if he will change his mind and be open to a move. Most of the best managers in the world are occupied elsewhere and United have in many ways dug themselves into a hole.

David Moyes was always a risk, and United let him go 10 months into the job. Louis van Gaal brought about a different playing style but failed to garner league success. Jose Mourinho won three trophies but could only manage a 2nd place finish in the Premier League.
Solskjaer was expected to complete the job, but even he failed to win major silverware. Thus, there is a pattern here, and it has put off Ten Hag from taking the reins at the theatre of dreams.
