Transfer News: Manchester United are ready to offer €55 Million for Frenkie de Jong
According to Catalan outlet El Nacional (h/t Thehardtackle), Manchester United is prepared to pay €55 Million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Frenkie de Jong has taken over a more central role in Barcelona. The Dutch player is deemed to be a long term replacement for Sergio Busquets. He has given some solid performance for the Catalan team in the last few seasons. However, what makes him even more valuable is his deep-lying playmaking role.
However, the Blaugrana board has decided to offload him to raise funds. Barcelona remains a debt-ridden club, and any holistic improvement to the squad remains vague due to the lack of funds. In such a scenario, a recent drop in performance of the 24-year-old midfielder has obliged the board to look for buyers.
Manchester United has been linked with the player recently. It is believed that Ed Woodward’s board is ready to pay €55 Million for the services of the Dutch midfielder.
The United team is in serious need of a deep-lying midfielder. Some of their recent disappointing results has been a result of defensive midfield problems. Despite some heroics save from David De Gea, the Red Devils have conceded some easy goals in recent times. Lack of proper cover and deep-lying role can be a reason for that.
But it seems the new manager Xavi has an intention to hold onto the former Ajax player. It could become a concern for the Red Devils, for whom the requirement of a reliable midfielder could become a necessity soon.

It is also believed that the FC Barcelona board value De Jong more than the offered price. So, it’s possible that they could be willing to let the player leave if a more potent offer comes from the Manchester board.
