Transfer News: Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani
According to The Star (h/t Express), Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani is being pursued by Barcelona. The Spanish club is allegedly willing to fork out a sum of £4m-£5m to sign him.
The Uruguayan international has provided key performances for the Red Devils from time to time. His experience upfront has helped the club create an attacking threat. Despite this, the veteran forward has seen a decrease in quality game time this season as Cristiano Ronaldo made his way back to Old Trafford.
The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has only played 274 minutes for the Manchester-based club across all competitions this season. The 34-year-old is seemingly unhappy with this situation as he was given assurances of proper playing minutes before the arrival of the Portuguese star.
With a plethora of young attackers like Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and the recent addition of Jadon Sancho, the Uruguayan could find it even more difficult to cement a spot in the starting 11. The Catalan giants are in a dire financial situation and they could be looking at new reinforcements in their attacking department.
Barca were recently dealt another blow when their summer signing Sergio Aguero had to be taken off the pitch in their match against Deportivo Alavés earlier. It is also believed that the Argentine striker may have played his last match with a certain heart condition coming to the fore. The Spanish club is supposedly willing to fork out £4m-£5m to sign the Uruguayan international.
That being said Cavani has immense experience of playing at an elite level. He has played with some of the best footballers of his generation and has still managed to create an impact in such surroundings. The 34-year-old has played 301 matches for PSG across all competitions during which he scored 200 goals and provided 43 assists. His tenure with Man Utd, though having lasted a short while, has given the fans several celebratory moments.

The striker has made 47 appearances for the Red Devils during which time he has scored 18 goals and provided six assists. Barca are also undergoing the process of rebuilding their club at the moment and an experienced striker could help bring some composure and calmness to a relatively young team under new boss Xavi. It wouldn’t be audacious to say that Cavani could look for a change of scenery with his current situation at Manchester United.
