Manchester United dealt blow as Zinedine Zidane has been ruled out to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to Pedro Almeida (h/t ESPN), Manchester United have been dealt a blow as Zinedine Zidane is not in contention to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Links were connecting him to a move to Old Trafford in the past few weeks before this update.
The Norwegian has largely been under pressure this season which was made worse due to the summer signings. With three Galactico superstars brought into the team, expectations were to improve on last season’s showing and attain silverware.
But things have not been rosy and, with defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League, tensions were at an all-time high in recent years. The wins are questionable since it was down to individual brilliance or opposition mistakes forced by a late rally.
Earlier this week, talks between the board and the representatives of Zidane were in motion, but it was ultimately a failure. However, a move in the future is not ruled out as the negotiations were unsuccessful due to the current circumstance.
The former Real Madrid man does not want to take over during a season as he believes it would be a recipe for disaster. In such a situation, it would be interesting to see what stance the Glazers take if there is no change under Ole.
Many are already displeased with the way the club is run, and the decision to appoint him next season or not could add fuel to it. Since the former midfielder has not ruled out a move in the future, it would be wise to look long term for the best interest of the club.

The debate between long term planning or immediate success is already ongoing within the club, and some may use the Norwegian as an example for a long term project. But the fact is that he was initially an interim coach and was then made to be the permanent manager.
At a club like Man United, there must be a solid foundation for future success as it shows how high the ambitions are. Coming off the back of a humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford, it remains to be seen if Solskajer can survive the night as the manager.
