Transfer News: Diogo Dalot looking to seal Manchester United exit in January amidst AS Roma interest

According to transfer news on Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Diogo Dalot is waiting for a concrete offer to leave Manchester United in January amidst interest from AS Roma.

The 22-year-old was a bustling full-back at Porto before Jose Mourinho decided to bring him to Old Trafford in 2018. The Portuguese manager had a knack for targeting players from his home country, and he felt Dalot fit the bill.

For all his qualities, the youngster was lethal going forward but just as guilty at the back. Regardless, he suffered for game-time after Mourinho left. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought in Aaron wan-Bissaka in 2019, and the Englishman has been the first-choice since then.

Dalot joined AC Milan on a loan deal last summer and performed brilliantly. Although he stayed at Old Trafford this season, he has suffered for minutes again. Thus, a move could be on the cards again as he is waiting for a concrete offer.

AS Roma have showcased interest as Mourinho wants to bring his former disciple to his new club. The right-back already has experience of playing in Italy, and this move could benefit the Portuguese international.

However, there are financial considerations that need to be looked at. The Red Devils are open to letting him leave in January on a loan deal but want to include an obligation to buy for €15m next summer.

The Serie A club have other plans. They are open to a loan move in January but are only prepared to pay €10m to make the move permanent in the summer. However, Man United are in no mood to make any discounts as they want reasonable compensation for their deputy full-back.

They are apparently playing hard to get as they did for Chris Smalling a couple of years ago. But Roma general manager Tiago Pinto is ready to look at other options if this deal fails. Hence, the ball is in United’s court to either accept the cut-price fee or bargain till the Italian club buckle down.
