According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United ace Tahith Chong returned to Carrington to complete his recovery from injury after returning from his loan spell at Birmingham City.

The soon to be 22-year-old joined the Blues on a loan spell at the start of the season. The youngster had an impressive start to the campaign too, contributing to 5 goals in 13 Championship games.

However, the winger suffered a ruptured thigh tendon injury and had to cut short his spell at St. Andrews. He returned to Manchester and underwent surgery.

Fortunately for the starlet, the surgery was a success, but he shall now have to go through a rehabilitation process of four to five months. He was recently pictured driving into Carrington to continue his recovery.

But Birmingham have not given up on bringing him back in January if he can complete a quick recovery. Manager Lee Bowyer told Birmingham Mail earlier this month (h/t Manchester Evening News):

“It’s a massive loss, everyone knows what he (Chong) has been like since he has been here, he has been a massive player for us… He has been great here; we are definitely going to miss him.

“I hope that both clubs can work something out, as you know the budget has always been one-in-one-out. I hope the two clubs can come to an agreement so we can still use him when he comes back towards the end of the season.”

However, that seems like a pipe dream given the extent of his injury. If Chong recovers after January, he might get a chance to feature in the U-23 side of United.

The likes of Teden Mengi and Anthony Elanga have been plying their trade with the development squad this season, and another talented youngster would only boost the club’s chances of progress in the Premier League 2.

Not to mention, he could be one of the leading names to come out of the club’s youth academy. But for now, his focus should be on recovering fully and then maybe think about what’s best for him when it comes to getting quality playing time.
