Transfer News: Wolverhampton Wanderers join Newcastle United to sign out-of-favour Manchester United ace Donny van de Beek in January
According to transfer news on The Sun, Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined Newcastle United in the race to sign Manchester United ace Donny van de Beek in the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old joined Old Trafford from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2020 for a whooping £39million. Despite scoring on his debut, the Dutchman has been provided with few chances to prove his worth to the club.
Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, and Scott McTominay have often been preferred ahead of Van de Beek this season. This led to the player being restricted to just four league starts throughout the 2020/21 campaign.
To make matters worse, the midfielder is yet to make a league start this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also reiterated that the former Ajax man holds a lot of importance in his squad. But the Norwegian is yet to back up his words with actions.
Van de Beek might have had enough of it now and could push for a move in January. The prospect of sitting on the bench during one’s peak years is certainly something he does not want to experience.
He is not short of options and has garnered the attention of other Premier League sides. Newcastle United are looking to sign the player after being bought out by the Saudi-led consortium. However, Wolves have also joined the race to sign the central midfielder.
Bruno Lage has got Wolves playing attractive football, and they currently only sit a point below United in the league table. Additions in January could boost their hopes of securing some form of European football next season.

But to their dismay, Van de Beek apparently prefers a move to Italy or Spain. Regardless, the final decision shall lie with Solskjaer.
