Journalist claims Manchester United are in talks with Zinedine Zidane amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to journalist Pedro Almeida (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are continuing to hold talks over the appointment of Zinedine Zidane amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The French boss retired more than a decade ago, only to return to management at Real Madrid. Few knew the expertise he had, but his man-management techniques led to Los Blancos winning the Champions League thrice in a row.
Even after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, he led the club to a La Liga title. Nevertheless, he left the Spanish capital earlier this summer and is currently out of work. Man United are in search of someone to replace an under-fire Solskjaer.
The Norwegian has not been able to take United to the heights they expected. The Red Devils’ board are now holding talks with Zidane over potentially taking over at the Theatre of Dreams. The Frenchman is however keen to take his talents to the international sphere.
“Talks on between Zinedine #Zidane and Manchester United. Attention. The deal is difficult because the French coach’s preference right now is to coach a national team.”
The France job might be his preference, but that is no guarantee over its vacancy any time soon. Didier Deschamps is set to guide Les Bleus in the 2022 World Cup and maybe even the 2024 European Championship.
Thus, the former Madrid boss shall have to evaluate his options before making a decision. The Red Devils already possess some of his former disciples in Ronaldo and Raphael Varane. These factors could also influence his decision to take over the red half of Manchester.
