Juventus are believed to be discussing their future with Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt
According to Calciomercato (h/t Cult of Calcio), Matthijs de Ligt and Mino Raiola are set to discuss the young defender’s future with Juventus amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Turin outfit splashed a whopping €75m to acquire the Dutch defender in the summer of 2019. He was part of the memorable Ajax Amsterdam team that made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Dutch international had a rocky start to life at Juventus but had gone on to become an important part of their backline recently. His contract with the Italian giants runs till 2024.
The 22-year-old still has a lot of potential and has immensely profited from the proximity of veteran defenders like Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini. The young defender seems to be developing at a good pace and has attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
The young defender has already made 87 appearances for the Bianconneri across all competitions during which he has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists for Juventus. The Serie A club could be looking to decrease their wage bill and de Ligt is one of the highest earners at the club right now.
The Red Devils have struggled at the back this season. They have leaked goals against the biggest teams like Liverpool, Leicester City, and Manchester City this season. Their defense looks shambolic at times despite bringing in top players like Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane to Old Trafford.
While the former Ajax player may still be pretty young he has still got a lot of experience under his belt. He could also help beef up competition for starting spots in this Red Devils lineup. Apart from Varane, the club also brought stalwarts like Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the last transfer window.

Whilst discussions are still going on between Juve and the 22-year-old Dutch international, even if the opportunity presented itself any move for the youngster could be a costly affair. That being said, the Red Devils would have to pull up their socks and hold a tight ship at the back if they are to compete consistently this season.
