Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage become the latest batch of youngsters to pen professional terms at Manchester United
Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage have become the latest youngsters to pen professional terms with Manchester United.
According to Manchester Evening News, Zidane is highly rated by the club and they are keen for him to continue his development despite being currently injured.
The 17-year-old has not featured for the Under-18s since December but is expected to regain fitness soon. The attacking midfielder joins the likes of Shola Shoretire, Hannibal Mejbri and Anthony Elanga, who all recently penned new terms.
United intend to promote Iqbal to the Under-23 squad next season once he turns 18 later this month. He has so far started seven times for the Under-18s before he suffered an injury in December. A talented player he made his debut at the level at the age of 16.
Interestingly, Zidane is not the biggest name to pen a deal with United today. That honour belongs to Charlie Savage, the son of former United star Robbie Savage. (h/t The Athletic)
The star child!
The 17-year-old has been in the club’s academy for several years and is a midfielder like his father. A Wales youth international, he has featured for their Under-17 and Under-18 sides.
A regular in United’s Under-18 side, he has made 17 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League, scoring twice and assisting six goals. (h/t The Athletic)
He recently featured in United’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup on Saturday.
