Tahith Chong admits Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keeping tabs on his progress
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong has revealed that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keeping tabs on his progress this season.
The Dutch starlet moved to Championship side Birmingham City on loan earlier in the summer. He has been one of the club’s best players and has earned rave reviews for his performances.
As things stand, Chong has managed just two assists in 10 games for Birmingham. The stats, however, tell just a part of the story as his performances on the pitch has shown.
The impact the 21-year-old has had at St Andrew’s is not lost on Solskjaer. Chong admits that it is good to see the Norwegian take a keen interest in his on-loan players.
“Yeah, it’s always nice to hear from him, and that he’s watching the games as well.”
Chong goes on to add that the likes of not just Solskjaer but also Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna text him after games to offer him pointers regarding his performance.
“I’ve got Darren Fletcher and Kieran [McKenna] and, like I say, even the manager sometimes texting me. You know, after matches, it can be a ‘well done’ or ‘well done, you can improve on this and this’ and, to be honest, the contact has been very good.”
Chong joined United from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2016 and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award and the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award in 2019.
Moving to Birmingham is admittedly a step-down but the promise of more playtime could help draw out his abilities to the fore. He appears to be doing just that.
