Speaking ahead of the Atalanta game (h/t The Metro), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed that Antonio Conte could take Tottenham Hotspur a long way.

The Red Devils drew against the Italian outfit on Tuesday night and retained top spot in their Champions League group. The game was considered heavily important for the future of Solskjaer, who was apparently given an ultimatum of three games to turn things around after the poor result against Liverpool.

If the Norwegian had been sacked, Antonio Conte was one of the men touted to replace him at the hot seat at Old Trafford. However, in a complete turnaround, United defeated Spurs 3-0, which led to the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo instead, and the North London club hired Conte.

Before the Atalanta fixture, Solskjaer reacted to the appointment of the Italian at Tottenham.

‘He will bring a lot to Tottenham. Antonio Conte has already shown that he is a winning coach. The last time I met him was in England during a dinner with [Sir Alex] Ferguson.’

Rightly so, the 52-year-old has won trophies everywhere he has gone, including England. In fact, league titles have been a feature of his success–something United were expected to be competing for after ploughing in the kind of money they did.

However, while Tottenham acted after Nuno lost just five games of the season and hired one of the best in the business, the Red Devils are yet to do so. While Solskjaer has often dug himself out of holes, a shambolic performance against Man City might not be well taken to.

Regardless, his track record against Pep Guardiola is incredible, and few would be surprised if the 48-year-old does turn things around at Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
