Marcus Rashford denies Owen Hargreaves’ claim over benchtime frustration on Twitter
According to the Sportbible, Marcus Rashford denied the claims made by Owen Hargreaves, who said the Manchester United player was ‘fuming’ to be on the bench for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United responded to the loss against Liverpool by putting together a brilliant performance against Tottenham. Cristiano Ronaldo was particularly influential on the night. He opened the scoring and then provided an assist for Edinson Cavani’s goal.
But United weren’t finished as Rashford scored after coming off the bench at the 86th minute. The Englishman has looked the real deal since returning from injury.
Hargreaves thought Rashford was disappointed for not starting the game, and showed his frustration after scoring the goal. It was admittedly a muted celebration by the striker who helped complete a sensational win.
“I think you could see that in his celebration, he was fuming.”
He explained that having Ronaldo and Cavani in the same team, it was difficult for the United boss to start Rashford in that game. Given the riches in attack at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disposal, someone had to take the backseat on the night.
But Rashford publicly denied the former United Midfielder’s claim on Twitter. He suggested that his reaction was purely for celebration purposes. Clearly, he appears to think that Hargreaves is reading too much into nothing.
“Fuming at the manager??! We won the game that celebration was pure relief! It’s been a hard week…”
Solskjaer’s team is set to face city rivals Manchester City next weekend after the Champions League game against Atalanta mid-week. Back to back wins would certainly put a smile back on Rashford’s face.

United are coming off the back of a challenging month that saw them slip up numerous times. While it is easy to look into minor details, there is always the risk of over reading certain issues and making a big meal out of them. If Rashford is to be believed, that is exactly what Hargreaves has done here.
