Manchester United vice executive chairman Ed Woodward not eager to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to the Daily Mail (h/t The Express), Manchester United vice-executive chairman Ed Woodward is ‘reluctant’ to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Old Trafford outfit have certainly not had a pleasing month of football but could smile at the end of it after picking up a resolute victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Solskjaer’s position as manager of the club was under intense scrutiny after heavy defeats at the hands of both Leicester City and Liverpool. In fact, the win against Tottenham was the club’s first victory since defeating West Ham United in mid-August.
The Norwegian was apparently given an ultimatum of three games i.e., against Spurs, Man City & Atalanta, to prove to the board that he is the right man for the job. Although he has jumped over the first hurdle, there is no certainty whether the 48-year-old will be sacked even if he suffers defeat against Atalanta & City.
This is because vice-executive chairman Ed Woodward is not too intent on sacking the gaffer before he departs Old Trafford at the end of the year. The United chief was hired in 2012 and has since made mind-boggling decisions that have not gone down well with the fans.
Woodward apparently does not want to create one last stain on the club before he leaves by sacking the former Molde manager. Zinedine Zidane & Antonio Conte have been linked to the Manchester-based outfit recently while Brendan Rodgers & Erik Ten Hag are also on the list.

However, this reluctance of the club chief could cause an issue because Solskjaer does not exactly have a great record of winning trophies – something that would be expected of them after chunking out the cash in the summer transfer window.
Regardless, with Woodward set to leave before the end of this calendar year, it remains to be seen how fans perceive his departure, especially if he delays the sacking of the manager despite poor performances.
