Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard could snub West Ham move for Newcastle United
Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour talking to TalkSport (h/t ChronicleLive) believes that Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard should snub a return to West Ham United in order to sign for Newcastle United.
Lingard spent six months on loan at West Ham last season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists and soon became fan favourites. He was expected to leave United on a permanent basis in August during the transfer window but somehow ended up staying at Old Trafford.
But West Ham can face competition to his signature now Lingard is one of a handful of England internationals to be linked with a move to a suddenly cash-flush Newcastle United side.
Ever since the Magpies were taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, they have been linked with a number of players.
Keeping that in mind former Arsenal ace Ray Parlour points out at TalkSport (h/t ChronicleLive) that Lingard might pick Newcastle ahead of West Ham now.
“Certainly (West Ham) would be interested. But paying the wages is the big problem.”
“Everyone’s looking at Newcastle now, who they’re gonna go for. I’m sure they’d be paying a lot more wages than West Ham.”
Lingard has found it tough to break into United’s starting XI under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite their struggling start to the season. He has found it tough to impress the manager to give him game time ahead of superstars in the squad.
Four of his last six appearances for the Red Devils have been off the bench and during that time he has scored twice and set up one goal – including Ronaldo’s last-minute winner against Villareal in their second Champions League game.
At 28, Lingard is in the prime of his career and he would surely be thinking of his choices ahead of the transfer window so that he can get regular play time.
