Manchester United star Marcus Rashford explains why he stayed off social media after harrowing Liverpool defeat
According to the player’s official Twitter account (h/t The Guardian), Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has explained that he was embarrassed to face the fans on social media after losing to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old, along with his other United teammates, was delivered a huge hit by the club’s arch-rivals on Sunday. Liverpool came to town and annihilated a lacklustre Old Trafford outfit.
Although the defensive deficiencies were always present, the Red Devils could not conjure anything in the attacking phase either. Most of what Rashford did, caused little to no harm to the opposition goal, and his confidence was punctured every time Mo Salah lined up to take another shot in front of a near-empty goal.
There was a huge backlash after the game with most fingers pointing towards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the buck always ends with the manager. Some of the players apologized for the disastrous performance, however, the English international put up no such message.
The player recently explained why he went off the grid after the game. His Twitter message read (h/t The Guardian):
“I can’t lie, you haven’t heard from me on here because as a United fan, I didn’t really know what to say after Sunday. I was embarrassed. I am embarrassed. Our fans are everything, and you didn’t deserve that. We’re working hard to try and fix this. We have to redeem ourselves.”

The last time the youngster suffered such an emotionally embarrassing defeat was when Italy defeated the Three Lions on penalties to lift the Euros earlier this summer. Following that game, there was racist abuse towards the striker, although no such cases were reported this time round.
Regardless, Rashford will now have to pick himself up, dust off the dreadful memories of Sunday and go re-energized to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
