Manchester United include Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag in four-man shortlist to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

According to The Sun (h/t The Express), Manchester United are set to continue with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the time being but have drawn a four-man shortlist, including Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag, to potentially replace him.

The Old Trafford outfit would be worried about the side’s performances in recent weeks as things could still go from bad to worse after the defeat to Liverpool. The Red Devils still have games lined up against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, while a trip to Italy is also on the cards to face Atalanta.

Despite the shambolic results, the board are ready to continue with Solskjaer, but only for the time being. However, a four man-short list is being readied in case the Man United board do decide to sack their Norwegian manager.

Antonio Conte is said to be keen on the job, while Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rodgers have also been touted to be as viable options. However, one more name that has come into the mix is Ajax tactician Erik Ten Hag.

The 51-year-old joined the Dutch side in 2017 and has changed the fortunes of the club. He developed incredible stars like Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech, and Donny van de Beek before selling them for huge profits, with the latter joining United last summer.

Despite playing with a young squad, he also took them to the Champions League semi-final in 2019, where they lost out to Tottenham. Thus, he is a proven coach with a good track record of playing with youngsters as well as the experienced lot.

Hence, while he would be a fantastic choice, it remains to be seen whether the Dutchman himself would be open to joining the Manchester-based outfit, should things not work out with Solskjaer. He seems to have a good thing going on at Ajax but United would certainly be a step up for him in many departments.
