Zinedine Zidane is among those in contention to take over at Manchester United from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to Marca (h/t The Mirror), former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is among those linked with taking over the managerial role at Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been at the helm for the Red Devils since taking over from Jose Mourinho in 2018. He is yet to win a single trophy and is currently under pressure to bring about a turnaround in form.
While his job is at this moment in time safe, things could go south quick unless results pick up. With Liverpool up next, the Norwegian’s job hasn’t gotten any easier.
While Zidane would be an interesting choice, the legendary Frenchman is in no mood to rush back into coaching. He left Real Madrid at the end of the 2020/21 season and has since opened a padel centre near Marseille.
Being away from football has given him the opportunity to opt for leisure activities and give his family time. It will be something that will come at a premium should he decide to take over at Old Trafford.
Not only has Zidane led Real to three UEFA Champions League titles but also had Cristiano Ronaldo firing all cylinders. In fact, two of his five Ballon d’Ors came during Zidane’s reign.
He has the credentials to take over at United but the club needs more than a tactician. What is also needed is a man manager who can get the different stars firing as a unit. Real despite their continental success under Zidane, they did display certain chinks in the armour. He is far from certain to succeed at United.

A move to United will see Zidane not just with Ronaldo but also with Raphael Varane. He could also get to finally manage Paul Pogba, a player he admired while at Real. For not it is just speculation. But with a tough set of fixtures to come, Solskjaer could very well find himself being sent to the gallows.
