Former Liverpool ace Danny Murphy has urged Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to emulate the approach of Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel
Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Daily Star), Former Liverpool ace Danny Murphy has urged Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to use the tactical approach used by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
The Red Devils have not won a Premier League game for over a month now, and their latest defeat to Leicester City was a shambolic performance. There was a genuine lack of intensity and pressing throughout the game, while the selection was also puzzling as Nemanja Matic was the only defensive midfielder on the pitch.
Their title rivals in Chelsea, on the other hand, are top of the Premier League table, thanks to Thomas Tuchel’s no-nonsense selection process. The German has often benched big stars this season but has churned out the results nevertheless.
Danny Murphy has now asked Solskjaer to act like the Chelsea boss and make some tough decisions. The former Liverpool ace told talkSPORT (h/t Daily Star):
“If you look at Tuchel over the last three weeks, he’s not just not changed personnel and gone: ‘You fix it’. He’s actually gone to a five in midfield, with three central midfielders who are all defensive and the two wing-backs, and then played two strikers – he’s only got two attacking players on the pitch.
“I said this a year ago – [Paul] Pogba and [Bruno] Fernandes in the same team doesn’t work unless you’ve got eight others who are workaholics. You throw [Cristiano] Ronaldo in the mix, in effect, you’re carrying three, aren’t you.”

While Tuchel is a manager with loads of experience at top clubs, Solskjaer is still learning the trade but still managed to secure a 2nd place finish above the Blues last season.
However, Chelsea as well as Man City and Liverpool might steal a march ahead of United if their Norwegian boss does not make the hard decisions and inspire results out of his team.
