Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier reveals his stance on Premier League return amidst Manchester United January links
Speaking in an interview (h/t The Sun), Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier has revealed that he would ‘love’ to return to the Premier League amidst a potential January move to Manchester United.
The 31-year-old has enjoyed a lovely career as he first featured with Burnley before Mauricio Pochettino brought him to Tottenham Hotspur. The full-back replaced Man City bound-Kyle Walker seamlessly and proved to be a crucial part of the side that finished 2nd in the league in the 2016/17 season.
He also played a monumental part in Spurs reaching the UEFA Champions League final in 2019. However, the right-back was later moved on to Atletico Madrid and went on to win La Liga under Diego Simeone last season. He made 29 league appearances and provided 6 assists in the process.
His performances also led to Gareth Southgate naming him in the England squad for the Euros, as they made it to their first major final since 1966. Thus, Trippier’s stock has certainly been rising, and there was interest in the player this summer.
Manchester United were weighing up a move for the right-back to provide competition to Aaron wan-Bissaka. However, their £18million bid was rejected as the Spanish club were stern on their £34million valuation of the former Tottenham man.
Regardless, a move in January may now be back on the cards as the right-back has now come out and revealed that he would love to return to the Premier League while it is also thought that Old Trafford is his ‘preferred destination’.

The Red Devils have suffered problems defensively this season as they have managed a single clean sheet across all competitions this season.
Thus, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could use an experienced head at the back that could help shore up his defence while also provide the necessary attacking input. In what could be a great signing for the club, the Manchester-based outfit should complete a deal for the 31-year-old if they do hold all the cards in their hand come January.
