Transfer News: Real Madrid seemingly interested in getting Paul Pogba on a free transfer next season
According to Sun via Marca (h/t Eurosport), Real Madrid are eyeing a swoop for French midfielder Paul Pogba as his current contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the season.
Pogba has been an instrumental part of the Red Devils ever since he arrived at Old Trafford. The Frenchman had some issues with injury and former manager Jose Mourinho but things seem to have smoothed out ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as manager of the club.
The 28-year-old midfielder has scored 38 goals and provided 49 assists in 215 games for Manchester United across all competitions so far. The French international has also started this PL season in fine form already providing 7 assists in as many matches for the Old Trafford outfit in England’s top-flight football league.
The Manchester-based club had a really productive transfer window with some big signings like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho all joining the Red Devils. With a rejuvenated squad Man Utd have focussed on offering long-term contracts to star midfielders Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
Both of these players have been an instrumental part in United’s attacking threat in the last couple of seasons and Ole would be hoping to tie them down to the club for a longer future. Despite all of these star players at his disposal, the Norwegian manager has found it difficult to maintain consistency with the club in this campaign.
It is believed that Real Madrid are interested in signing the World Cup winner to boost their squad. Apart from Pogba, the Spanish giants are also said to be interested in signing fellow French teammate Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
