Transfer News: Jesse Lingard reveals stance over January exit after lack of minutes at Manchester United
According to the latest transfer news from David McDonell of the Mirror (h/t 101 Great Goals), Jesse Lingard has taken the decision to leave Manchester United in January.
The 28-year-old has suffered a topsy-turvy year at Old Trafford. After falling down the pecking order last season and failing to start a single league game in the red jersey, Lingard decided to join West Ham United on loan for the second half of the season.
He excelled under David Moyes as he scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances for the club. However, the Englishman returned to Manchester this summer and performed well in the pre-season before succumbing to Covid-19.
He eventually made his return and has since scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist in just 136 minutes of football across all competitions. Almost like a super-sub, the winger has proved crucial in a lot of games. He has scored the winner against West Ham while he also provided the assist for Ronaldo’s winner against Villarreal in added time.
Will Lingard stay at Manchester United beyond 2021?
Thus, Lingard is certainly making his minutes count on the pitch but is yet to be given a league start this season. There has been interest from AC Milan, Barcelona, West Ham United, and Newcastle United to secure a move for the player in the near future.
The English international is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, but it does not look like he is going to stay that long.

The 28-year-old is ready to depart the club in January as he is aware that he would need regular game-time if he is to make the England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Hence, it would now be down to United as they could either receive a transfer fee for the player in January or let him leave as a free agent next summer.
