Manchester United scrapped plans to sign Eduardo Camavinga and Saul Niguez after signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus
Speaking on his YouTube channel (h/t The Express), Manchester United were interested in signing either Rennes star Eduardo Camavinga or Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez before completing a move for Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.
The Old Trafford outfit made four additions to their squad this summer by bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tom Heaton, and Raphael Varane. However, that was not the plan initially.
Sancho and Varane were signed to make additions in the frontline and the defence respectively, while Heaton was brought to provide competition to Dean Henderson and David de Gea.
However, the signing of Ronaldo was not on the agenda in the beginning. This is because the Red Devils had planned to bring in either Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes or Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid, according to the information provided by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel (h/t The Express).
The midfield is an area United are planning on addressing next summer and something they were planning on strengthening this summer as well. However, those plans were scrapped after they secured a move for Ronaldo from under the nose of rivals Manchester City.
Camavinga instead joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on a deadline day deal while Saul also had a similar story. The Spaniard joined United’s title rivals in Chelsea in the dying embers of the summer transfer window on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Regardless, United acquired a huge signing by getting the Portuguese, who is already knocking in the goals. But that does not mean that they will not target a midfielder in the future.
Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips have been touted as potential options, but it remains to be seen whether either deal materializes come next summer.
