Transfer News: Manchester United suffer blow as Newcastle United eye deal for Juventus ace Federico Chiesa
According to Italian publication TuttoSport (h/t The Sun), Newcastle United are plotting a move for Juventus star Federico Chiesa amidst links to Manchester United.
The 23-year-old has been sensational for the Turin outfit since he made the move last summer. In what has proved to be a revelation of a signing, Chiesa has so far scored 15 goals and provided a further 11 assists in 50 games for the Italian club– good numbers for any young winger.
In fact, his scintillating performances were also a huge part of the reason why Italy won the European Championship earlier this summer, while they also finished 3rd in the UEFA Nations League, which concluded recently.
Saudi-backed Newcastle United have now drawn a five-man-shortlist including the likes of Franck Kessie, Mathijs de Ligt, Stefan de Vrij, Marcelo Brozovic, and Chiesa, with the latter also drawing interest from Manchester United.
The Old Trafford outfit’s star-forward Cristiano Ronaldo is also said to be keen on reuniting with his former teammate in Manchester after their successful strike-partnership in Turin last season.
But if the Geordies do consider a move, the Manchester-based club could be involved in a bidding war while the Juventus man will not come cheap either. Chiesa still has three years left on his current contract with the Old Lady, where he pockets a massive £206,000-per-week salary.

It would, however, be noteworthy that the Red Devils have completed tough deals previously and have lured players to the theatre of dreams. Moreover, the prospect of Champions League football could be the advantage United hold over the Magpies in this deal.
With several clubs targeting the Italian ace, only time will tell where the player’s preferred destination lies.
