Transfer News: Manchester United interested in Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer
According to Transfermarkt.de via Transfermarktweb, Manchester United are keen on Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer.
The 24-year-old is steadily making a name for himself in Italy with Torino. He stands out in what is a largely inconsistent Italian side and has now seen his performances draw the attention of the Red Devils.
Bremer came through the ranks at Desportivo Brasil and enjoyed a season on loan at Sao Paulo before moving to Atletico Mineiro in 2017. He spent 18 months at Mineiro before switching to Torino in the summer of 2018.
Since arriving in Turin, Bremer has become a rock at the back for the Granata. He has since made 83 appearances for the club, even helping them stave off relegation last season.
Bremer is also a threat at the other end and has scored 11 goals for the Italians so far. He also captained the side once this season, hinting at his potential leadership ability. With his contract ending in 2023, a change could be on the cards.
Why do United need Bremer?
If all goes well, he could even move to Old Trafford as early as January. The Red Devils have four capable centre backs at the club. However, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire are the club’s first-choice centre-backs.
With both of them out injured, the depth at the back is starting to look pretty bare. Liverpool found it out the hard way last season. We should hopefully avoid falling into that pitfall.

Whether having his top choice defenders out will force Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hand remains to be seen. Bremer has much to do before he becomes an automatic choice. However, the Brazilian represents an excellent fifth choice centre-back.
