Manchester United senior coaches uncertain whether Donny van de Beek can adjust to the Premier League
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Metro], Manchester United senior coaches are still unsure of whether Donny van de Beek can adjust to the Premier League or not.
The Dutch international made the move from AFC Ajax last summer as United shelled out close to £34million. However, they have not received any gains out of this investment yet due to the lack of game-time of the individual.
Since the start of last season, the midfielder has only made four league starts, and none of them have come this season. Although he has started two games this season, both ended up in the club losing the game eventually due to one reason or another.
A couple of off-the-bench cameo performances have been offered to the 24-year-old, but he has failed to impress so far. However, the player’s patience ran thin earlier this summer, and attempted a move to Merseyside as Everton looked to sign the Dutchman on a loan move.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eventually blocked the move, and perhaps it was the right decision, given that squad depth is essential for any top team in the Premier League.
Van de Beek was also put on a conditioning programme this summer to bulk him up to adjust the physicality of the English league.

However, it seems as though it has not worked out the way the coaches would have wanted it to, as some senior members of the coaching staff are unsure whether the Dutch international will ever fit into this league.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the midfielder has the talent, but the 24-year-old might start evaluating his future if he continues to be benched so often. Regardless, speculation is rife, and it remains to be seen which jersey the Dutchman pulls on next season.
