Paul Parker feels Manchester United should get in Rene Meulensteen back to support Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Speaking to Talk of the Red Devils (h/t The Express), Former Premier League ace Paul Parker believes Manchester United should bring back Rene Meulensteen to support Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils were ruling the roost during the days of Sir Alex Ferguson and also had a golden period when they won the Premier League thrice in a row between 2007-2009. During that period, Ferguson was not the only one worthy of the credit.
The tactical input provided by first-team coach Rene Meulensteen was also highly admired by the former United manager. In fact, the club also reached 3 Champions League finals between 2008-2011, thanks to the work put in by Meulensteen, who left the job later in 2013.
Paul Parker has now revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could certainly use somebody with the tactical expertise of the Dutch coach. Parker told Talk of the Red Devils (h/t Express):
“Whenever you listen to him (Rene Meulensteen) speak, people want to talk to him about United, and you can see that it is still within him. It’s part of his DNA. I see nothing wrong with him coming back.
“He’d (Sir Alex Ferguson) bring in people – like Rene – who had different ideas and who were strong enough to question the things he was doing.
“He (Solskjaer) wouldn’t be putting himself under pressure by bringing him (Rene) in because he wouldn’t want his job in a million years, but you’d be bringing in someone to improve the team.”

However, given that the Norwegian boss already has the likes of Mike Phelan, Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna, and Eric Ramsey in his support staff, it is unlikely that another coach would be added to this setup.
But, given Meulensteen’s winning mentality and tactical nous, it could be a wise move to have an experienced head in United’s coaching setup.
