Paul Scholes feels Manchester United lack aggressive tactics under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Speaking on the Webby and O’Neill podcast (h/t The Sun), Paul Scholes believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not employed aggressive tactics at Manchester United.

The Red Devils went disappointed into the international break in October after being held to a draw by Everton at Old Trafford. However, before that game, the club had also picked up a last-minute victory against Villarreal while they also failed to score against Aston Villa in the league and West Ham in the EFL Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who played his first game in September, is already the club’s highest goal-scorer this season with 5 goals. Thus, the goals have dried up slightly in recent weeks, and Solskjaer needs to find some answers.

Paul Scholes, who played in many successful teams under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, has explained that the lack of aggressive tactics is the reason for the club’s recent downfall. The club legend told Webby and O’Neill (h/t The Sun):

“Ole doesn’t seem to be able to get the balance right in that team. Is he going to play that one with the rest around him and have [Paul] Pogba next to him, who he probably doesn’t trust defensively? Or is he going to play two holding midfield players?

“That’s the difference between United, and I think Liverpool and Man City – they are much more aggressive, more attack-minded… I think if Ole can get that right with that balance in the team… going forward I don’t think is a problem.”

Balance might be the current issue but it looks like the Norwegian boss has also realized this to be the problem as he is thought to be wanting to change his formation to a 4-3-3 soon.

Regardless, it remains to be seen if the Manchester-based club get any more ‘aggressive’ in their games post the international break.
