Paris Saint-Germain ace Lionel Messi namedrops Manchester United as one of the clubs to win the UEFA Champions League this season
Speaking to L’Equipe (h/t Manchester Evening News), Paris Saint-Germain ace Lionel Messi believe Manchester United are one of seven clubs that can the UEFA Champions League this season.
The Barcelona legend made the move to the French capital this summer after spending nearly two decades in Spain. PSG gobbled up the opportunity to sign the forward and now possess a strike force of Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe.
While their entire squad is filled with stars, Messi believes there are other strong teams who can win Europe’s premier competition this season. Manchester United, who have won the competition thrice, are one of the contenders in the Argentinian’s opinion.
Messi told L’Equipe (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“It is true that the centre of attention is on PSG, but there are other very strong teams, such as Chelsea, the Manchester teams (United and City), Real Madrid, who always responds, Inter Milan, Bayern.
“We have great individuals, but we still have to know each other well to form a team. To win important titles, you have to play as a team. That is what makes me say that we are still one step back compared to all these clubs, who have more collective experience than us.”

The Red Devils brought in talent this season but also brought players who know how to win titles. Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo have 9 Champions Leagues, 1 World Cup, 1 European Championship, and several league titles between them.
Moreover, Jadon Sancho has been one of the best youth prospects in recent seasons. The investment has thus been sound, and United have not had a half-bad start to the season. Hence, it looks like it is only a matter of time before they win the competition for the fourth time in the history of the club.
