Harry Maguire set to be offered improved Manchester United contract soon
According to The Mirror (h/t Express), Manchester United are ready to reward club captain Harry Maguire with a new contract.
The central defender came to Old Trafford in the summer of 2019 for a whooping £80million, the biggest fee in world football for a centre-back. However, he had the talent and potential, and the Manchester-based club shelled out the big bucks.
Since then, he has gone from strength to strength under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has also earned the captain’s armband. His stellar defensive performances led to the Red Devils finishing 4th in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season, and then finishing 2nd in the league last season.
Similarly, Maguire also captained his side to the Europa League final last season. And, his performances are set to be rewarded now. Although he did sign a six-year deal when he joined the Old Trafford outfit, United are going to offer the Englishman an improvised contract, which will see him earn just as much as summer signings Raphael Varane & Jadon Sancho.
The two 28-year-old centre-backs have already formed a partnership at the back, but gaps have been seen in United’s defence ever since Maguire went off injured in the game against Aston Villa in late September.

Regardless, a new deal is a sign of good things to come as it indicates that they are already shaping strategies for the long-term and the Englishman is certainly a part of it.
With handsome additions to the squad this summer, Maguire would be hoping to captain the Red Devils to their first piece of silverware in five years.
