Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand gutted by club’s inability to sign Federico Chiesa
According to BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has lamented the club’s inability to sign Italian superstar Federico Chiesa.
The Azzurri winger was among the standout players of the summer’s Euros. It not only saw the 23-year-old’s profile increase but also brought him to the attention of some of Europe’s big boys.
Chiesa was on target once again as Juventus defeated Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Speaking after the match, Ferdinand believes his performances will make English clubs realize what they have missed out on.
“I’m sure they’re thinking “why didn’t we get him?”
“Every club in Europe will want a slice of him when he become available.”
Ferdinand has a very high opinion of the Italian. He played a key role in Italy win at the Euros. It proved to be an instrumental tournament that saw the birth of a star.
The United star also compared Chiesa to former rival Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan was capable of making something happen out of nothing and believes Chiesa has the same ability.
“He’s hustling and bustling like a young Luis Suarez character, he can make something out of nothing.”
Speed kills!
Ferdinand was particularly impressed by Chiesa’s ability to drive at defenders with pace. A former centre-back himself, he is well aware of the difficulty it poses
“It’s his pace, his drive. He’s the one who is the threat, he’s potent, he wants to run in behind.”
Chiesa has the best years ahead of him and will only improve. He could very well prove to be the ace up Massimiliano Allegri’s sleeve as he looks to take the Turin giants back to the top.

United signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus earlier in the summer and the 36-year-old has already made an impact at Old Trafford in his second coming. But he is in the final years of his career and any success he may have now will be in the short term.
It is fair to say that while we celebrate out today, Juventus have already secured their potential world-beater for the future. Time will tell whether that is truly the case.
