Ralf Rangnick makes his call on five Manchester United players ahead of January.

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is not a happy man following Villarreal snub

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United star, Donny van de Beek cut a frustrated figure on the bench as the Red Devils made tough work of Villarreal.

The Dutchman was once again on the periphery and looked downright frustrated. Not only did he chuck his chewing gum but also had to be consoled by teammates for not taking to the field.

Villarreal were up for the game and even took the lead through Paco Alcacer. Exquisite finishes from Alex Telles and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the tide with the latter coming in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

One man who played a role in Ronaldo’s winner was Jesse Lingard who came on as a late substitute. Van de Beek could only watch on as Solskjaer brought on Lingard and Fred to turn the tide of the game.

The Norwegian had the option of making another substitution. It was, however, not to be and Van de Beek was forced to take his frustration out on the sidelines.

Van de Beek was consoled by teammates Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly and looked livid at being allowed to go on. The Dutchman also threw his bib to the floor after being told he would not be coming following his warm-up session.

Solskjaer made four changes on the night. Apart from Fred and Lingard, he also brought on Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani.

Solskjaer admitted earlier in the year that Van de Beek will be given opportunities this year. He has, however, failed to keep the promise, relegating the Dutchman to token roles.

Given how he has gone about handling Van de Beek’s time, it is a mystery as to why Solskjaer even gave his assent for United to sign the player.
