Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes wrote himself into the history books against Aston Villa
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star, Bruno Fernandes did have something to celebrate in the club’s 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Portuguese midfielder had a day to forget and never quite got going against the Villans. He had a chance to redeem himself in stoppage time when the Red Devils were awarded a penalty.
Usually reliable from the spot, Fernandes went on to sky the ball, condemning his side to a defeat. As things stand, the Red Devils are one point behind Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings.
According to the report, there appears to have been more than what met the eye in Fernandes’s performances. He made 10 key passes on the day, a number that has not been reached since the 2017/18 season.
Despite writing himself into the Premier League record books, It is debatable if Fernandes will look back at the performance with fondness. After all, he fell short when it truly mattered.
While the Red Devils did struggle in the final third, it was not due to a lack of support from midfield. A more clinical frontline could have brought out the true genius of Fernandes’s display.
The Portuguese maestro, however, does not have time to circumspect. With games coming thick and fast, the best place for him to make amends is on the pitch. Given his track record, it is just a matter of time.

Curiously Fernandes could have had another record to his name had he buried his penalty. Until the weekend’s game, the 27-year-old has an excellent record against Villa, scoring in his three meetings against the Midlands side in a United shirt. Interestingly all three were penalties.
Former Watford star Troy Deeney remains the only player who has scored more goals against an opponent with 100 per cent of them being penalties. Fernandes, against all odds, had the opportunity to make history but in the end, missed out.
