Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham on shortlist as Manchester United eye two midfielders next summer
Manchester United ‘may look’ to get two new midfielders next summer, with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham on the club’s shortlist, according to FootballTransfers (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Other names being eyed by the Red Devils include Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes and Barcelona’s Holland international Frenkie de Jong. The Old Trafford side have ‘drawn up’ the four-man shortlist to bolster the middle of the park in the summer of 2023.
The West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund stars are set to represent England at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The duo have been impressive at their respective clubs in recent seasons.
Man United wanted to add reinforcements to the engine room in the recent transfer with the departures of the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic. And De Jong was heavily linked with a move to Manchester. However, a deal did not materialise.
In the end, the Red Devils signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to add depth to the middle of the park. And the Denmark international and Brazilian number six have had an immediate impact at the Old Trafford side.
However, there is still evidently a need to add more quality in the midfield. In certain fixtures in the current campaign, like the one at Etihad Stadium against Manchester City, we were overrun in the middle of the park.
Our options on the bench leave a lot to be desired. Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have not been able to convince fans of their quality.
Bellingham and Rice have experience of English football. On the other hand, De Jong played under Ten Hag at Ajax. Bruno is also having an excellent season with Newcastle. Who Man United can get their hands on next summer remains to be seen.

However, any two out of the four aforementioned stars would be a welcome addition to Manchester United. Neither will be easy to sign, but the Red Devils are one of the biggest teams in world football and should be competing for such players’ signatures if they are on the market – just like the old days.
